INTRODUCTION

Amour de la Maison - French Provincial

In the 17th and 18th centuries, local furniture makers in the South of France began to imitate the more ornate furniture that was popular in Paris, essentially creating their own pared-back ‘French-country’ pieces from the more affordable materials and techniques they had available. The look became widespread after World War 1 when soldiers returned home, inspired by the look of country homes they had seen in the South of France.

Channel Parisian elegance with chairs, tables, lounges that feature cabriole legs or graceful scalloped curves which will, in turn, enhance a French sophisticated home. The French colours consist of decedent muted colour pallet including white, dove greys, ivory with splashes of duck egg blue and soft greens. Linen is one of the primary fabrics you find in French provincial designs and gives the room a simple aesthetic – a feeling of rich luxurious texture.

The heart of French provincial decorating is the distinct look of furniture used to create the laid back country feel, whitewashed surfaces, natural oak and distressed textures deliver the right balance of shabby and chic in this interior setting.

This style has been applied to pre-loved, lived-with and useful pieces and as such, bear the marks and imperfections of experience, as we all do. 😉
